The Thirty Meter Telescope is a project under construction in Hawaii under the direction of Cal Tech (2016) and was given a construction permit by the Hawaii Board of Land and Natural Resources. The telescope is being constructed on the state’s tallest mountain, Mauna Kea, and was challenged by a conservationist group because the mountain is a conservation area. The group says that the Board did not follow due process requirements in issuing the permit. The Hawaii Supreme Court revoked the construction permit.
