a. 5 kg/hr of sodium hydroxide and 10 kg/hr of water are to be mixed in an insulated tank. Both feed streams are to be put into the mixer at the same temperature. What is a safe inlet temperature at which to mix the feeds?
b. We would like to carry out the mixing process in part (a) with the feedstreams at 20°C, and we do not wish the effluent temperature to exceed 80°C. Cooling water is available at 10°C, and we would like to use some or all of the cooling water to provide the 10 kg/hr water feed stream to the mixer. Is this process feasible using a jacketed vessel? Assume that the heat transfer coefficient hT is of order 400 W/m2 K.
