A common procedure in metallurgy is solidification from a melt in a cylindrical mold. If the Jacob number is small we can use the pseudo-steady-state model, which should now include the conduction in the cylindrical shell of the solidified melt as well as in the mold wall. Develop such a model, and derive an expression for how to completely solidify the melt in terms of the system's physical properties, the radius of the initial melt, and the thickness of the mold.
