An elevator is moving downward. It is slowing down as it approaches the ground floor. Adapt the information in Figure 2.25 to determine which of the following velocity graphs best represents the motion of the elevator.Ultimately, whether or not an object that is slowing down has a negative acceleration depends on whether the object is moving to the right or to the left, or whether it is moving up or down. This is admittedly a bit more complex than thinking that negative acceleration always means slowing down, but our definition of acceleration as the slope of the velocity graph forces us to pay careful attention to the sign of the acceleration.
