Locate your state’s online resources on the Web. Find the opinions of the appellate court or courts that review routine criminal appeals. Determine whether that court’s opinions are posted online. If so, examine the ten or twenty most recently posted decisions. Categorize these decisions by the issue(s) presented on appeal. From this sample, what kinds of issues are being raised in criminal appeals in your state? How do they compare with the kinds of issues?
