We want to determine the relative intensities I1 and I2 of the electric current in the two legs of the simple electric circuit shown in Fig. 2.8, whose resistances are R1 and R2. The incoming current has an intensity I . The well-known result is easily obtained with the Ohm–Kirchhoff laws.

Show that it is simpler to assume that the loss of energy by Joule heating is minimal.
