Question:
A particle moves in a straight line so that t seconds after passing through a fixed-point O, its acceleration, a ms-2. Is given by a = pt + q, where p and q are constants.
The particle passes through O with velocity 3 ms-1 and acceleration – 2ms-2.
The particle first comes to instantaneous rest when t = 2.
a. Find the value of p and the value of q.
b. Find an expression, in terms of t, for the displacement of the particle.
c. Find the second value of t for which the particle is at instantaneous rest.
d. Find the distance travelled during the 4th seconds.
