Fiskar, Inc., has conducted a study of its managers’ motivations. It used the expectancy theory framework and a questionnaire that asked the managers to quantify their expectations on a 10-point scale for intrinsic and extrinsic values and then assign a probability to whether or not they felt they could accomplish their goals and whether or not they felt a reward would be forthcoming if they reached their goals. The survey came up with the following results for three of its top managers.
