Planning and job analysis are fundamental to structuring any nonprofit organization or community event. 

• Select a nonprofit organization that needs help organizing a fund‐raiser, celebration, or activity such as a parade or carnival. Volunteer to help plan, organize, and execute the event.

• Contact a local food bank about organizing a food drive. Take responsibility for planning the event, determining what needs to be done, and assigning responsibilities to volunteers.

• Contact a local nonprofit and inquire about any help they may need with cleaning (washing windows, cleaning vehicles, shampooing carpets), moving, or painting. Take responsibility for raising money for the required materials, purchasing the materials, and completing the activity. 

As you put your service learning experience together, keep a journal of your activities, the time you spend, contact information for people you work with, and your thoughts about the process. When you’re finished, make a presentation to your class about the experience and what you learned. What concepts from Chapter 5 were you able to apply?
