Question:

A study done in the Netherlands (Stulp et al., 2015) looked to see whether a person’s height is related to their status. To test this they found a narrow passage at the entrance of a supermarket where only one person could fit through at a time. They then watched what would happen when two people (of the same sex) approached the passage at the same time, but from opposite ends. Would the shorter person give way to the taller? In the 46 pairs of individuals that they observed, 31 times the shorter person gave way and let the taller pass through first. In the other 15 times, the shorter person was allowed to pass through first.

a. Describe the parameter, π, that the researchers are trying to estimate.

b. Use the One Proportion applet, repeatedly testing possible values for π, to construct a 90% confidence interval for π to 2 decimal places.
