A large retailer wants to link two key issues into one neat solution. Employee purchases are problematic as they are irregular and unpredictable. At the same time, there is a need to overhaul the rewards and incentive programs. The proposal is to issue each employee with a prepaid card.

The card will be credited with their bonuses and rewards, which the employees can then use to buy products from the ranges sold by the store, at a predetermined discount level. One half of the class should prepare a strong case for the proposal and the other half should come up with a list of potential problems it might present. They should then present their thoughts, after which the instructor will moderate an open class discussion on the issue.
