2.17. A Roper Poll was designed to determine the percentage of Americans who express some doubt that the Nazi Holocaust occurred. In response to the question, "Does it seem possible or does it seem impossible to you that the Nazi extermination of the Jews never happened?" 22% said it was possible the Holocaust never happened. The Roper organization later admitted that the question was worded in a confusing manner. When the poll asked. "Does it seem possible to you that the Nazi extermination of the Jews never happened, or do you feel certain that it happened?" only 1 % said it was possible it never happened.5 Use this example to explain the concept of response bias.
