Propofol is insoluble in water, but it has to be administered by intravenous injection. For this reason, propofol is formulated as a mixture with soybean oil and lecithin. (This milky formulation is sometimes jokingly called “milk of amnesia” by anesthesiologists.) What is the purpose of these additives?
