Material technology influences social technology. What does that statement mean? How do different authors approach these issues? Interview two people who have been working in the same organization for a significant period. Ask one of them to explain how technology has changed their personal experience of work, at the level of the job role that they do. Ask the other to explain how technology has changed the organization as a whole. Has Web 2.0 technology started to have an effect, either on individual jobs or on the organization, and how? Relate their comments to your earlier review of the technology literature.

‘Job role’ refers to how work is done; tasks, procedures, skills, responsibilities eliminated, new ones acquired. Impact at the organization level could concern changes to structures, teams, systems, working practices, and external links with suppliers and customers. Any suitable employee will be able to answer questions about job role; a manager will be more knowledgeable about organizational changes.
