Why do managers often implement controls that are based on a theory X perspective?

When Elizabeth was interviewed for the manager position at Stonybrook Medical Clinic, she was asked what management style she used. She had recently graduated with a master’s in business administration from Stonybrook College, and in her organizational behavior class she had learned about theory X and theory Y. She told the interviewer that she believed people should be trusted and engaged and that she was a theory Y manager. She was hired and started work a month ago.
