The following data (from H. E. Wheeler, Amer. J. Bot. 46, 361, 1959) give the numbers of fertile and infertile perithecia from cultures of Glomerella grown in different media: Medium Fertile Infertile Total Oatmeal 179 56 235 Cornmeal 184 19 203 Potato dextrose 161 39 200 Synthetic 176 26 202 Determine whether there is a significant difference between these media in respect to fertility of the perithecia. If there is a significant difference obtain an approximate 95% confidence interval for the proportion of fertile perithecia given by the best medium. Otherwise obtain a similar interval for the pooled results. (Leic. Stat.)
