Question:
1. As I wrote about in my last post, this work has opened my eyes a little more to what a leader is. I hope to one day own my own wedding planning business and lead a small team of employees. in my leadership development action plan, I stated that I have a hard problem letting go of control and delegating, trying to think outside the box, and trying to find a balance with work and home life and disconnecting a little bit from the constant contact and phones (happy life, happy work life). In the future I hope to be able to be a great leader by being trusting, open, collaborative, genuine and appreciative at all times. Of course there is more to go along with that, but that will be the most important. I am going to delegate, trust in my team, try to work outside my personal tastes and look elsewhere for inspiration and also unplug at times, stop and smell the roses so to speak and relax a little. I have been planning a wedding for the last year and the wedding is this weekend. This will be my first time to do such an event and will probably learn a lot from this entire experience. With each event and wedding, I will learn more and more I will take so much from this course as I continue on with my career and learn to be an even better person and leader. How to be a great leader will also help me academically say what I feel and have confidence to lead a group of peers on projects. This class has helped me distinguish between a manager and a leader and then how to be a great leader which is skills I can use in my everyday life often.
2. I envision myself utilizing the leadership practices for a while. I have very little experience in leadership. There are so many "faces" to being a leader. A leader must first have their own voice, learn how to appreciate and recognize costiveness in the team. A leader sometimes has to blend in and listen to the team’s thoughts and insight. My action plan will help guide me when I find myself leading others. I feel if I follow the five practices for exemplary leadership, I will be on the right track to being respected and having other follow my vision. as I look back on the last 8 weeks of class I found all of the information helpful and will utilized it in the future for presentations as a leader. I liked how each module lead us closer to understanding all of five practice of exemplary leadership. The information learned will be very valuable as I apply for my first leadership position after graduation.
