Question:
1. It really made me start thinking about the leaders i know, whom i trust and why i trust them. First thing i think of is reliability. All the leaders i admire and trust within our community stick to their word, are always there to be counted on and most of them don't get involved in the "politics" of our little community. You can count on them. They are always respectful and open and you trust them. I feel like most leaders have to be transparent to gain their team member trust...or at least at the right times. If there is something big in the works then i think it is good to be totally transparent once you know the details or the details are finalized.... One thing i read once about building trust within your team or organization is have them do a survey on what you like or dislike.. Hobbies, favorite candy etc... When those people are being rewarded... You give them something personalized in recognition. It doesn't have to be anything fancy but it lets a relationship form with your co workers or organization that you care about them. This exercise along with communication, transparency and really trying to fuel collaberation and team work is what makes people trust you. The concept of first leading yourself is sort of like the golden rule. If you want others to be leaders, be excited and take initiative then you must first do the same. Have some fire and passion, be honest, be approachable and reliable... And you will have allot of great leaders in your team!
2. The people i’ve trusted are those that have provided a personal touch. Ones that i feel at ease with and who i feel comfortable expressing any concerns or personal issues. Leaders that have these traits make for a better work environment. When a leader is not approachable, employees get on edge and lack of trust ensures for lack of communication. This in turn will divide values and reduce workloads even if a company is deep in tasks. A trustworthy leader is friendly, focused, and confident. a good leader can remain transparent because, these are qualities one is born with. one doesn’t learn to be honest, trustworthy, committed, a listener, owning to one’s own mistakes, and open to feedback from other sources. By leading yourself, you enable others to act through empowering them through your own values and confidence in your skills. You need to have the ability to lead yourself if you think you can lead others on the same path. if you don’t believe in your decisions, then you’re not going to be a valiant leader. When other people see this countenance, they can be influenced by your aura and watch their own ideas come to life through collaboration.
