Question:
1. Select a specific, historical security incident (you may use the incidents described in the book beginning on page 2, or you may select a different incident). Write a one paragraph summary of the incident in your own words. Be sure to describe the perpetrators, location, time frame, technology used or attacked, etc . . .
2. Based on your answer to question 1, describe the following:
a. The perpetrator: What is known of the perpetrators’ motivations, credentials, prior history (if any), etc . . . ?
b. The attack: How was the attack perpetrated? Depending on the attack, you may need to address particular things, but pay attention to the course content. This includes human factors (was there any social engineering?), network vulnerabilities, software vulnerabilities, physical barriers that were breached, etc . . .
c. Prevention: Do you believe this attack could have been prevented?
d. If you believe the attack could have been prevented, what could have been done to prevent the attack? Make sure you include several different types of protections.
e. If you believe the attack could not have been prevented with current knowledge, describe a theoretical approach (e.g. what could we invent that we don’t have now) that would prevent the attack.
