Adam writes a software program for First National Bank that, when installed, makes First National’s computers crash. First National loses all of its customers’ data in the crash. The bank’s employees, including Carol, work overtime to reenter the data. As a consequence, Carol is late to pick up her brother Dave at the intersection of First Avenue and Main Street. While waiting for the ride, Dave is injured by being hit by a truck driven by Ellen when the truck’s brake fails. To collect for his injury, Dave files a suit against Adam.
