Question:
As burgeoning archaeologists, I want you to find two or more artifacts (large or small) from two distinct ancient cultures and discuss how such distinctly different peoples could develop the same ideas even though they may have lived at different historical times or even on different continents. For instance: When we think of pyramids, we often think exclusively about the ancient Egyptians. But other ancient societies and cultures such as in Mesopotamia, Nigeria, China and Mesoamerica (just to name a few) built burial mounds and pyramids as well. You can also look at things like ceremonial bowls, spoons, headwear, etc and see that many pre-Judeo-Christian cultures believed heavily in a spirit world where animals played a huge role in their religious beliefs. Why do you think this is so? I encourage you to use these two ideas just as examples and find your own to write about. There are hundreds if not thousands of examples out there. If you get stuck then email me privately.
