Question:
Read the article “Streaming into the American City”
There can be little doubt that many immigrants still come here, as they have always done, to get away from political or religious persecution in their native lands. It might be argued, however, that the situation for many of them is different now than it was in past decades. They are coming here to make a decent living.
Is this true for the city you have chosen? Can you hazard a well-informed hypothesis? Based on all you have read and analyzed so far, did, and do, the majority of immigrants come to America’s cities seeking refuge from persecution or did they, and do they still, want an opportunity for growth and economic security instead? Explain your answer.
