Question:
Read the article “What happened when Michael Brown met Officer Darren Wilson” and respond to the following:
Was the Michael Brown shooting (and other police shootings) "about" race or do they "involve" race? Do you think race was/is part of the incidents? If so, how? If not, why not? Perhaps you think the police shootings under consideration here don't have anything to do with race. Explain how so.
What would be necessary for the incidents to be "about" race? In order for race to be present in the events, in what form would it have to appear? Where would you see it? If you think race wasn't part of these events, how is it absent? Where do you not see it? And if race is not part of the events, how is it that they have together become a racial flashpoint?
