Introduction The primary aim of this research paper is to summarize the findings from the research on applications of RFID technology in automobiles industry and different standards used for implementation of RFID technology in automobiles RFID or the Radio Frequency Identification technology is used for tracking devices or objects having embedded RFID tags Usually a small chip having a capacity of 2KB or less is used as a tag RFID technology is used as an alternative to barcode technology In the automotive industry RFID is used heavily The technology is not new but it took a long time to use it commercially and with its full potential The primary reason for the delayed implementation of RFID technology in the automotive industry is the lack of standards for using RFID in the automotive industry at a large scale Currently RFID is used mostly in production lines in automotive manufacturing and for tracking automotive RFID has two common problems Those are tag collision and reader collision Usually a reader is used to read the data from a nearby RFID tag Now there will be multiple tags and reader in the same area As it works on radio frequency so it is highly likely that a reader may receive a signal from two tags at the same time and vice versa In such a case the collision will occur A tag cannot process two requests from two readers This is called reader collision In the same way when the respond times of tags are significantly small then a reader will receive a signal from two or more tags at the same time Hence the system must be designed to control the response time of the tags so that such collisions can be avoided Use of RFID Technology in Automobiles Vehicle Identification Number or VIN is used for identifying a vehicle in the production and assembly line supply chain and tracking after delivering it to end users In the production and assembly the parts and the vehicle are tracked for a manufacturing process quality control final production and customization delivery to dealers and deliver to customers Once it is sold the government tracks the VIN for keeping track of the vehicle and controlling issues like vehicle theft and crimes that use some vehicle VIN was initiated in the USA and now is used in many other countries In the USA VIN is a 17 digits number Currently VIN works on RFID technology VIN is also used for checking warranty details of vehicles repair history accident records and other notifications related to a vehicle Hence it is very useful for vehicle management RFID based AVI or Automatic Vehicle Identification systems are used for implementing authorization to secure a vehicle from theft and physical damages It is particularly important to manage and secure vehicles in industrial perimeters business facilities and so on AVI system is connected to an access control system for extending the vehicle access control The access control system may be simple or advanced enough to implement ...
