Write a report to explain the role of motivation in the performance of an employee.
Omar is a recent graduate from a local university.
He has received several job offers from a number of companies to work as an assistant project manager. Omar chose to accept the offer of employment from ABC to work in their Project and Development Department (P & D).
ABC is a major national project based company and their P&D department is known for their innovative products and services.
The pay package ABC offered Omar was less than what other companies were offering him. However, Omer was attracted to the experience he is expecting to get from being involved in the world class projects that ABC was running.
The Problem
Three years later Omar, now an assistant project manager is getting concerned about his pay, especially now that his family is facing facing financial difficulties. Omar’s family is in need of a new house and they were looking to Omar to provide the finance for buying it.
Suddenly Omar started expressing frustration with pay and benefits received by his counterpart in the commercial department. The project manager was puzzled of Omar’s change of attitude especially that the perceived pay discrepancy between P&D department and the commercial department existed since Omar joined ABC.
Brief
Provide an analysis using Maslow hierarchy of needs. Equity, and Expectancy theories to explain the change of attitude and motivation of Omar
Using this analysis provide advice to the PM on how to deal with omar and maintain his motivation and commitment to P&D and ABC.
