"Yellow woman," by Leslie Marmon silk. "Adventure" by Sherwood Anderson's (read this story on the following link). "Arab," by James Joyce. As you read, consider the dreamlike world of fantasy that the protagonist of each story creates. How does the fantasy reflect the assumptions of each character's specific culture? Think about the epiphany that changes each character's perception of reality. Part 1 chooses one of the characters from these stories and argues that the character was or was not really in love. Part 2 using characters from these stories, defend or refute the idea that romantic love is irrational. Part 3. Briefly analyze the protagonists in the stories read this week-- Sherwood Anderson’s "adventure," silk’s "yellow woman, and James Joyce’s "array." Briefly describe the fantasy world each protagonist creates. Then determine whether these characters are dynamic or static; that is, do any of them grow and change and acquire a glimpse of reality and achieve some measure of self-understanding or do they retreat further into a fantasy world?
