The Discussion

Overview: The goal of this assignment/discussion is for you to watch Jeffrey Brown's Ted Talk and consider the elements of his talk that you might want to include in your delivery style, speech structure, and content. Pay particular attention to his use of story telling to build credibility (ethos) and emotion (pathos). By sharing your thoughts on those elements with your classmates, you may be able to add to your toolbox of public speaking strategies, and incorporate those in your upcoming advocacy speech assignment.

Requirements: Submit a response to the discussion that includes at least two observations about his use of supporting material.

Directions: Watch the video embedded above and take notes his use of ethos, pathos, and logos. You might create three columns and put examples from his speech into the appropriate column (ethos, pathos, or logos). When you've watched the video in its entirety, highlight the elements that stood out the most for you.
