Cognitive complexity is the capacity for abstract thought, various viewpoint considerations, and critical and unbiased thought. The capacity to think abstractly, to take into consideration a variety of perspectives, and to think critically and objectively are all components of cognitive complexity. The capacity for empathy is the capacity to comprehend and experience another person's feelings. It is being able to empathize with another person and understand how they are feeling by putting yourself in their position and feeling what another person is experiencing is what we mean when we talk about empathy.
Please respond to this student's answer on Cognitive complexity & Empathy ; in what ways can you agree and can you relate? Give an example as to how:
" Cognitive complexity is the ability to form different scenarios with viewing an issue. For example, I work with my friend. Some days she comes in and greets me with a smile. Other times she will just ignore me and pass by me to get to her locker. Instead of asking her i tend to create scenarios. Like is she mad at me? Is she just tired? or did something happen at home? Things like that make me worry or stressed because I like working with my friend and I wouldn't want to have done something to upset her.
Empathy involves feelings and putting yourself in someone's position to understand the way they are feeling. An example of this would be when i talk to my friends or family about issues we have going on. One time a friend was in a really dark place. I would try to do everything to get them to talk about it but then i asked myself, "would I want to be pressured into talking about something I'm not ready to talk about?" And no, I wouldn't want that to happen. So instead, I let them take their time but still checked up on them through text or asking if they wanted anything to eat or from the store."
