Physical changes in adolescents have psychological effects on behaviors. The psychological effects involve changes in self-esteem and self-awareness. Adolescents can mature early or late, which can lead to various outcomes. Early physical maturation can lead boys and girls into activities and situations they are not adequately prepared for (Felman,2022). Teens wanting to be accepted and the impact it has on self-perception. Stress can cause depression and low self-esteem. As their social personality develops with social it becomes complicated. In balancing friendships with the desire to be alone, adolescents struggle to accommodate an increasingly complex character (Feldman,2022). The growing pains are tricky, especially with teens comparing every aspect of their lives to others.
As a parent of a pre-teen and teenager, social media is part of my kid's daily schedule. Technology is used everywhere, so we must embrace it. However, embracing social media as a communication platform does not mean accepting everything available. Teens need to have a balance, and social media should be monitored and limited time used in one day. Teaching them the importance of disconnecting from social media positively affects their mental health. Parents should be involved with every aspect of their child's life and communicate with the teen so that when situations occur, they have a trusting relationship with the teen, so when needed, advice or conversations about issues are openly discussed. Emotionally supporting your teen is vital during the era of social media being used as the leading platform to interact with one another.
