in the figure aside. A tailwater or D/S water
depth is 6.0m when the dam reservoir is at its
maximum water level (MWL) at 86.0m. Taking
the uplift pressure as equal to the hydrostatic
pressure at either ends and considered to act
over 60% of the area of the base section,
evaluate the (i) net uplift pressure force, (ii)
hydrodynamic force (as per Zanger's formula)
and (iii) earthquake forces (horizontal and
vertical) acting on the dam section. The
earthquake forces are equivalent to 0.10g for
horizontal forces and 0.05g for vertical forces.
