a. A nurse wants to know how their male patient's blood pressure compares to the mean population. The population means for diastolic blood pressure for men was 78 during the first week of May 2022, with a standard deviation of 18. During the first week of May, a sample of 142 males was admitted to the nurse's unit with a diastolic blood pressure reading of 84.

b. A researcher wants to know if there is a relationship between being a psychology major and an interest in the provision of mental health interventions. They surveyed students in the faculty of health and recorded students' program of study (psychology, not psychology) and their self-reported interest in providing mental health interventions (interested, not interested).

c. According to one research study, about 58% of Canadian TikTok users are emerging adults or younger (29 or younger). Age data of n = 1000 individuals who use social media was acquired. Researchers in this study were interested in whether the age distribution of individuals who use Tiktok differs from the age distribution of social media users who prefer alternative social media platforms. In the sample, 550 people were older than 30, and 450 were 18 to 29 or younger.

d. A university track coach in Ontario wanted to know if completing daily high-intensity interval training (HIIT) improved their athlete's overall speed in the 500-meter dash at the end of the season, compared to the overall speed of athletes in other provincial regions, who did not complete daily HIIT training. The average overall speed (in seconds) for university athletes in all other regions of Ontario at the end of the season was = 141.32. The average overall speed (in seconds) for the coach's track team of 50 runners was M =138.6, s = 8.40.

e. A coffee shop wants to know if its customers prefer caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee. They record the total number of units sold for each type of ground coffee (regular, decaf) from January to March.

f. A health psychologist is interested in knowing if a sample of 10-year-old inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients at the Hospital for Sick Children experiences different levels of anxiety prior to receiving a needle/injection, compared to the overall population of 10-year-old IBD patients.
