1 Formulate a project that will provide a solution to an identified problem

2 Manage a project within agreed timescales and specification, documenting the process throughout

3 Evaluate potential project management solutions

4 Produce a project report and deliver a presentation of the final project outcomes

You are a project manager in the company and your teams expertise is on Sustainable Construction. Last week, your boss organised a meeting with one of the potential client for discussion on his large commercial and residential projects. The purpose of the meeting for the client was seeking a sustainable construction consultancy firm for these projects and he expressed in the meeting that he has already met up with 2 other companies and your team is the most satisfactory so far. He is happy with your company profile and job experience. However, he would like to have another meeting with your team and requested you to prepare a report and a presentation to see the quality of work of your company for his final decision on which company he should finally employ.

The topic of the report is The importance of sustainability for construction. Your report should include the following:

The report is a maximum of 5,000 words, and you may use a project or projects that you have been involved. Clearly report the aims of your project, giving reasons for the project. You will identify the main components of your project and define these in a clear project specification. In addition, you will need to explain why the clear specification of the project is key to approaching a successful outcome.

In the report, you are asked to identify the sustainable construction method on the resource, costs and timescale for project management and also describe techniques for generating potential solutions to the challenges of the project. As you progress, you will maintain a project management plan and consider the time and resource tracking necessary.

As part of project process, you asked to evaluate the relationships that may arise between project feasibility, planning on time and resources.

Sustainable construction means using renewable and recyclable materials when building new structures, as well as reducing energy consumption and waste. The primary goal of sustainable construction is to reduce the industrys impact on the environment. Therefore, you are asked to explore different project management strategies that may be suitable for the potential projects proposal, and justify your selection of a preferred project management solution; comparing the outcomes that may result and their impact on resources, time and costs. Finally, you need to appraise your own performance in managing the project; draw conclusions and make recommendations that would further improve your performance in the future.

You will use this project to make a 5 minute presentation in the next meeting.

Important Notes:

Your choice of project is very important. You may have been working on a complex instruction or large project. Alternatively, the instruction or project may be more straightforward and not of great financial value.

Your focus must be on analysing the project: do not simply provide a summary of what has been involved. It is quality not quantity that counts. Appendices should support your report, not add to or expand on it.
