Question: 2) What are components of a theory?
As defined by Bacharach, "A theory is a statement of relation among concepts within a set of boundary assumption and constrains" (p. 496) to help people describe, explain, predict, and/or control social phenomena.
Components of theory included Constructs, Variables, Propositions, Hypotheses, and a Boundary. Constructs are terms that aren't observations but are applied or defined on the basis of observation. The constructs are conceptual ideas. While variables are an observable entities, they are then mapped to constructs. The proposition is the relationship between constructs. The hypotheses represent the relationship among the variables. The constructs, variables, propositions and hypotheses lie within a boundary; the boundary represents the conditions in which the model applies which includes assumptions about values, time and space.
