Former Post Fiji managing director Peni Mau says he only became aware of the company's intention to buy an external wall clock when an architect submitted an impression of it on plans for the renovation of the General Post Office in Suva. Mau was giving evidence in a case in the High Court in Suva in which he and former Post Fiji board chairman Mahendra Patel are charged with abuse of office. In giving evidence Mau told the court that the only issues that mattered to him were the timing of the project, the quality of the clock and the completion of the project. Patel and Mau both deny one count each of abuse of office. It was alleged that Mau approved the purchase of an external Seiko clock for $75,000 from Prouds Fiji without following proper procedures and without the approval of the Post Fiji Board. Patel is alleged to have allowed the purchase of the Seiko Clock from Prouds, a company owned by him and allegedly failed to disclose his interest and relationship with the company. Mau took the stand yesterday and told the court that when investigations were carried out by FICAC before questioning, he was not handed any disclosures. He told the court, he was only handed a single document that outlined a company article. This was a point his lawyer Devanesh Sharma made in the High Court as the trial continues. The trial continues in the High Court in Suva today. (https://fijisun.com.fi/2011/03/30/mau-unaware-of-clock-purchase/) Required The suspects are on trial for Abuse of Office. 4G+ 86% i.
