Using Transformations as an Architect Today you will be an architect. One of the hottest trends right now is downtown living, especially in small high-end apartments. You are designing a high rise complex of apartments to attract buyers. Here are some things you should keep in mind: . To be efficient, you will need just one apartment design, which will be duplicated throughout the building. The apartment should be between 600 and 800 square feet. The apartment should have a rectangular perimeter (so a row of units can fit tight together). The apartment should have the following rooms: Bedroom with closet O Bathroom O Living Room o Kitchen Laundry closet/room o You may add additional rooms . To be edgy, you will include one angled wall in your design. Be sure to take the measurement of this angle! Part 1 of Design Process Individually sketch one apartment floor plan design that meets all of the requirements above. Use graph paper, counting each square as a square foot. Show where the doors to each room are located. (Doors are 3 feet wide.) Part 2 of Design Process During this portion of the project, you will draft the plans for an entire floor of your apartment complex. Remember, every apartment will be the same, or congruent. The apartments should line two sides of an interior hallway. In total, you need at least 6 apartments on this floor. You should use translations, reflections, and rotations in your design. Each transformation should be colored a specific way (Reflections - Green, Translations - Red, etc.). Be CREATIVE when using your transformations! Part 3 of the Design Process At the last minute, the apartment developer calls and says he wants you to incorporate one apartment that is dilated by a factor of 2. You must now incorporate a room on the same floor with all measurements dilated by a factor of 2. Part 4 of the Design Process Label the original floorplan as "Original Apartment." Label each of the other apartments with the appropriate title: Translated, Rotated, Reflected, or Dilated Apartment.Part 5 of the Design Process Create a flyer for your apartment building that has the following information: Name of apartment building Cost of monthly rent . . Explain to the reader the features of your apartment including such terms as translation, rotation, reflection, symmetrical, and dilation! Any special features that will make someone want to live there. Part 6 of the Design Process - Discussion Questions . What types of transformations that you included were CREATIVE? .
