Sheldon has been hired as a leadership coach by the new CEO of ABC Company. Sheldon will be focusing on understanding the current culture of leadership in an organization. As he observes the leadership team, he noticed that they are all of a similar demographic and seem to easily agree with each other. They all seem very confident in their management style where they make all the decisions centrally and then have strict control and monitoring of employees. As one of the executive leaders joked to the others at a dinner meeting "We have to keep our leash because they can't be trusted. If they don't like it, there are plenty more people looking for a job." This comment made Sheldon feel uncomfortable that this was how the leadership team considered their employees. This all took place at a meeting that was more focused on eating, drinking and socializing than actually completing some tangible work. As part of his work, Sheldon conducted an employee engagement survey. The results showed that satisfaction was low. Many employees thought that the company would be a great employer because it promoted itself as a "Top 100 Employer" in it's job postings. They learned otherwise once they were surrounded by unmotivated team members who focused on keeping a low profile and doing the bare minimum work. The new CEO knows that significant change is needed. ABC Company has increasing turnover of employees and they are beginning to lose market share in their industry. He is hoping that Sheldon can help to coach these leaders to adapt their style to be more motivating, innovative and have a global mindset. He wonders what he can do to turn this culture around.
