1. Coke and Pepsi are rivals that compete in the same competitive market. They have been staples in the beverage industry since they started and have expanded into more than just Coca Cola and Pepsi. They both have acquired more brands to gain an advantage in consumer base. They both have their signature cola but both have a root beer, orange soda, lime soda, etc. They try to gain an edge over each other in each market. 2. This relates to Chapter 4 because of competitive advantage. As mentioned Coca Cola and Pepsi both fight each other in many markets so they do so to gain an advantage overall. 3. I found the first mover and responses interesting. It's interesting to see how companies innovate to be the first to do something to gain customers and how competitors fight back and regain the market Discussion 3 1. The major takeaways I learned are how firms compete against each other in a high competition rivalry. Pepsi and Coke are both great examples of this, as both companies create similar products (pop, water, energy drinks etc) leading to competition in the market, such as Pepsi Max and Coke Zero. 2. This relates to chapter 4 as chapter 4 talks about how strategy is related to competition and how companies can create a profitable strategy. 3. One interesting thing I learned from this chapter is how companies attempt to create a strategy by being a first mover or responder; the company that occupies either of these positions represents a unique opportunity in the market
