3.3 Assignment
Warehouse Construction Schedule in MS Project (Assessment Task)
A small business owner has decided to contract their first warehouse construction. The design is done, the blueprints are ready, the estimate was approved, and you already developed the Warehouse Construction Activities Logic Sequence in assignment 3.2. Now, you must share the warehouse construction schedule with the owner, crew, and subcontractors. The project is in the planning stage; therefore, the best option is to produce a bar (Gantt) chart schedule. The owner and others involved will understand it easily, and it can be produced quicker than any other scheduling method.
Instructions
Use the Warehouse Construction Activities Logic Sequence and Microsoft Project to complete the Gantt chart project schedule.
Step 1: On the left-hand side of the MS Project's screen, under the "Task Name" column, write all Warehouse Construction activities in order according to the construction logic.
Step 2: It is expected that groups of tasks be created, for example, foundation. You could use the five groups from assignment 2.2 or create new groups. The item hierarchy must be assigned to each group and task.
Step 3: Assign workdays in MS Projects start and finish columns. Assume that your project starts next month's first business day, and workdays are from Monday to Friday. There are no holidays or work exceptions.
At this point, you can complete the "Resource Names" column. Note that in the 3.2 Assignment, you completed a related column (Who will build it?). Go there and extract the information.
Step 4: In the "Duration" column, review the number of days required for each activity. Note that "Start" and "Finish" dates are linked with "Duration."
Step 5: At this point, it is suggested to activate the MS Project command "Auto Schedule" to generate the Gantt chart on the right-hand side of the MS Project screen.
Step 6: Complete the "Predecessors" column, which is crucial for the Gantt chart to show the sequence. If the "Predecessors" column is not filled out, the Gantt chart will not be set.
Step 7: Check that all MS Project fields are properly completed. Save and submit your assignment in an MS Project file (the file extension must be .mpp). Important: Save and keep your assignment file. You will continue working on the same file in the next module for the courses final project.
