An excellent basis for any study of an industry is contained in Chapter $1$ and Appendix B of Michael Porter$$s Competitive Strategy: Techniques for Analyzing Industries and Competitors: With a New Introduction $($In the library$).$ Porter discusses five competitive forces at work in an industry: $(1)$ threat of entry; $(2)$ intensity of rivalry among existing competitors; $(3)$ pressure from substitute products; $(4)$ bargaining power of buyers; and $(5)$ bargaining power of suppliers. I HIGHLY recommend that you read this chapter before beginning the project.
