A $203$x$203$x$71$ Universal Column $($UKC$)$ in S$275$ steel is to be used as an internal column in a

simply framed multi$-$storey building. At Ultimate Limit State the factored axial load is $1100$

kN from the floors above, but to this has to be added from the current floor four beam reactions

from primary and secondary floor beams. The beam reactions from the beams connecting to

the column's flanges are $86$ kN and $112$ kN on opposing flanges of the column, and from the

beams connecting to either side of the column's web, the reactions are both $35$ kN$.$ Is the

selected column suitable for this application, according to the provisions of the Concise

Eurocode P$362$ and the tabulated member capacities of P$363?$ You are strongly advised to use

those tabulated capacities to the fullest extent, rather than wasting time calculating them by

hand
