One idea was to have stories where the main character in a story has the same name as the child reading the story. To test if stories where the character and reader share a name increases reading time compared to the regularly named character, researchers randomly assigned 11 children to one of the types of stories. They had N=6 children read a story with a regularly named character, and N=5 children read the story whose character shared their name. The researchers recorded the children's attention span in minutes. Here is what they found.
