A busy New York restaurant claims the long wait time for a table is the customer's fault due to heavy cell phone use. Rather than sitting down to read the menu and order, people are looking at their phones before selecting their items on the menu and ordering. The increased cell phone use has made the average time at a table jump to an hour and 40 minutes. This is almost double the wait time before smartphones. Restaurants rely on quick table flips to increase their revenue. The faster a restaurant can flip a table and seat a new customer, the greater the opportunity to increase the overall customers attending the establishment and food ordered. Slow table flips result in reduced profits and tips.
