Question:
A circuit-switched network sets up a path between source and destination devices. The two devices use the same path, or circuit, throughout the conversation. This is the model the original analog telephone system used.
Networks that transmit packets as individual messages are called packet-switched networks. Packet-switched networks send each packet toward the intended destination. Each device along the way examines the packet's destination Media Access Control (MAC) address and selects the best outbound port. The receiver is responsible for reassembling the packets to reconstruct the full message.
Organizations must carefully consider how they want to use networks, how the devices on the network are to communicate, and how to implement an affordable solution while meeting all the functional and technical requirements of the organization.
Answer the following question(s):
- For what reasons would an organization, whether in the private sector, public sector, or education, use circuit switching today? Explain your answer.
