A contract is to be called on a 3 km section of road for earthwork and grading. Field surveys have been completed within the corridor and the cross-sections drawn at 100 m stations. From this work the areas of cut/fill have been estimated at each station and are enclosed below.
a. Determine the cumulative volumes of material between stations using a spreadsheet,
b. The freehaul distance is 190 m , and the overhaul charge is \(\$ 3.50\mathrm{~m}^{3}\) per station. Excavation costs are \(\$ 6.00\) per \(\mathrm{m}^{3}\) and apply to all freehaul, overhaul and borrow volumes. The borrow cost is \(\$ 5.00\) per \(\mathrm{m}^{3}\)(which includes ary haul costs and excludes excavation costs). There is no cost to waste material, Determine the limit of economic overhaul and the limit of economic haul.
c. Draw a mass diagram and assuming the entire section of roadway is level, approximate the profile of the existing terrain based on the shape of the mass diagram. Determine the total freehaul and overhaul volumes. Determine the total waste and borrow volumes. Indicate (draw and label) all of the above on the mass diagram.
d. Determine the total earthwork cost for this job.
