A developer plans to reclaim coastal land area for development of a resort with 200 rooms. The project site is located about 5km from the foreshore of the sea and covers an area of 120 hectares. The existing land uses consist of agriculture and aquaculture activities with mangrove trees cover most of this area. Marine life such as fish, seaweeds, coral and sea turtle have been observed in the nearby sea. The coastal reclamation requires Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study prior to the project approval by the government. Currently you are a graduate intern at an EIA consultant company who is responsible to carry out the EIA study for this project. You have been asked by your supervisor to obtain early information on impacts of the project to the environment prior to the actual ElA study and submit a preliminary report to him. Include the following in your report: a) Identify and describe types of pollution, sources and pollutants that could be generated throughout the project development. b) Explain the impacts of pollution you mentioned in 1(a) to the ecosystem due to the project development. c) Suggest how sustainable development can be incorporated in the project development to mitigate the impacts of pollution you mentioned in 1 (b)
