Scenario:
Yreek International Limited an international Distribution Firm is currently seeking to fill the position of Director of Distributions as the current Director has resigned from his position. The organization has had a rich history of promoting persons from within the organizations to fill vacant positions and this has worked successfully for them in the past. The Human Resources Manager Ms. Austen Whyte is having a discussion with Mrs. Kay Ferguson the General Manager regarding filling the vacant position. Ms. Austen believes that she should promote the current Distribution Manager who has three (3) years of experience in the position. Mrs. Ferguson however disagrees, and her view is to hire ‘fresh blood’ and bring new talent within the organization. Mrs. Ferguson also brought to the fore the functions of HRM and in particular ensuring that the organization is fully staffed and motivated. The efficient handling of the staffing function is very critical to organizations, and it may be the single most important decision that HR Practitioners can make to ensure the right person is selected for the right job, using the correct recruitment and selection strategy may increase the competitiveness and success of the organization.
