A makeover has been approved to turn a dilapidated single-storey building into a new state-of-the-art Smart Laboratory, which will offer access to the latest technology. It will be open to schools, universities, businesses and the public with the opportunity to turn ideas into reality. This will be done by training the trainers to use important new computer-controlled tools to enable trainees to gain confidence and digital fabrication skills. A project Feasibility Assessment and Environmental and Social Impact Assessment has already been completed. Also, a Business Case has been prepared and a budget of 750K has been approved. The target is to publicize the SL and open the refurbished building to visitors within 10 months.
