Machine stations A, B, and C are currently placed at locations 1,2, and 3, respectively as shown in the
figure below (i.e., current layout is ABC). A machine station can process one product at a time. All
products (P1, P2, P3) that enter the Aisle left side of location 1(I) and leave the production system
at the Aisle right side of location 3(O) are large and heavy. Each unit of product must therefore
be handled one at a time when transporting it from one machine station to another. Products are
transported through an aisle. The size of each machine station is 40 ft x 40 ft. The product routing
information and required daily production rates are given in the table below. Assume that the pick-
up/delivery stations (P/D) for each location are placed at the midpoint of the location edge along the
aisle. Assume that the cost of transporting one unit of product one feet is $1.
