The sluice gate exists across the channel and has an opening of 0.5 m (assuming this is the depth of flow passing through the gate.

(1) (A) Calculate critical depth (Note: Critical depth is in the range of 2.100 100 m); (B) Calculate normal depth (Note: Normal depth is in the range of 2.100 - 3.100 m); and (C) Determine if the channel bottom slope is steep, mild or critical. 

(2) Determine (A) if the flow upstream of the gate is chocked and (B) the water depth on the upstream side of the gate section (assuming no energy loss through the gate). 

(3) (A) Determine if a hydraulic jump will occur downstream of the gate; If the hydraulic jump will occur, find (B) the initial depth the hydraulic jump (Note: the sequent depth is the normal depth in the channel) and (C) the energy loss of the hydraulic jump using the energy conservation equation; and (D) Sketch and label the water surface profiles upstream and downstream of the gate.
