A research question will help determine your methodology, but the scope of your study will also be a contributing factor. What do I mean by scope? If you want to examine the impact of a state-wide high school program, then you will probably choose to do a quantitative study based simply on numbers. There are hundreds maybe thousands of high schools across the state. It would be impractical to travel to all of the locations to conduct interviews. However, what if you were asking this question and how it relates to schools found inner city Phoenix. Again, the numbers might be too large; the possibility of a mixed methods project might be more applicable. What if you took the question and applied it to schools for the gifted in the Phoenix area. This may become a qualitative study because of the manageability and proximity of the project. Please think about your study and discuss the potential participants, locations, and expected costs. Which methodology are you leaning towards? And why? What are you concerned about?
